For the past year, Bakers has been on a huge recruitment drive, with a number of partners from White & Case and Ropes & Gray switching to Bakers.

In January, Baker Mckenzie hired two new partners from White & Case’s London Office. Partners Rob Mathews and David Becker joined Bakers’ corporate finance practice as part of a series of hires into Bakers’ banking and finance teams. Both had been partners at White & Case for over a decade, who specialize in high yield capital markets.

Now Bakers has picked up a third lateral partner from White & Case, Prabhu Narasimhan. Narasimhan made partner at White & Case in 2015 as a member of its tax practice. This comes as part of Bakers’ plan to boost its City corporate and tax departments.

White & Case also lost Michael Doran to Bakers. Doran was a founding member of the firm’s sovereign advisory team and co-head of its firm’s Spain practice. Peter Lu, corporate lawyer at White & Case, also joined Bakers as a partner and head of its China group in London in February this year.

Bakers’ lateral hires over the past year include Matthew Cox, Nick O’Grady and Bevis Metcalfe who left Ropes & Gray to join the firm.

Earlier this year, Bakers’ London managing partner Alex Chadwick suggested:

“Our London partner headcount has grown significantly over the past couple of the years as we continue to expand our transactional capabilities with the best and brightest lawyers.”

In 2017, Bakers’ former Global Chair, Paul Rawlinson, commented that the firm aimed to increase the “bench strength in regular M&A, private equity, banking and finance by 10 to 20 partners in two or three years from around 30 at the moment.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″ shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_link_target=”_self” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” bg_image_animation=”none”][vc_column_text]Learn more about making a lateral hire with our how-to guide here![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
